In our sixth grade class, we have been learning stories of the Torah, one major story at a time. Last week, we focused on the story of Moses and Pharaoh, the ten plagues, and the eventual release of the Israelites from slavery. After each plague, Pharaoh's heart was hardened: the first five by himself, and the latter five by God. We talked about what it meant to have someone's heart hardened (emotionally, not literally), and how that may be a synonym for selfishness. We then talked about moments in our lives when our hearts had been hardened, and we built them out of playdough as a way to show them to the class.

Max made a time when he was watching the Cowboys on television and his sister wanted to change the channel but he refused.

The girls trying to come up with the moment they were going to create.

Greg talking about one day when he refused to take his hat off despite being asked several times.
I think that the kids really got a lot out of the conversations we had and realized that everyone has selfish moments.

It seems like the class really got into trying to understand what it meant to harden your heart. It is something that has been widely debated and it's confusing even for adults. I am glad that your class found a way to really connect with it
