Lirons 6th grade class

 Hi I am Craig Lustig from Lirons sixth grade class. Today we are writing letters to G-d. Later this month Rabbi Jay will put our letters in the Western Wall. These letters to g-d say what we are thankful for and/or a message to g-d. We are also reading a lot in our class. Today we read the Kiddush, V'ahavta and Avot V'imahot. We are working very hard and will blog more later about this but that is all for now.

Our favorite prayers

I had the privilege to be present in two incredibly moving discussions sessions with Rabbi Jay and my 6 Grade Hebrew classes.
 A few weeks ago , Rabbi Jay gave our 6 graders an assignment to seek a prayer in English from the Siddur. It needed to be a prayer that touches their hearts, that "speaks" to them,  and they needed to prepare a short presentation as to why it was meaningful to them.
Our 6 graders has gone above and beyond,  with beautiful artwork, deep, thoughtful presentations and open minds and has made me feel so proud and honored to be their teacher this year.
There are more assignments to come, and I will keep everyone posted as I'm sure, we will continue to be amazed by the creativity and maturity our 6 graders present.

Hi!!!  This is Liana Perlman from Liron's Sunday Hebrew class.  I want to tell you all about the things we are doing in our Hebrew classes.  We are studying the Yotzer Or.  The Yotzer Or is about how we thank G-d for the daytime.  Every day when we come into class, we start reading the Yotzer Or in small groups or as an entire class.  Sometimes we only read a line-a-person.  Now, each person reads multiple lines.  Day by day, our reading improves and we are starting to memorize this prayer.  After we read, we break into groups and play Hebrew games such as Hebrew Uno, or Hebrew Go Fish.  This helps us to strengthen our everyday Hebrew and our T'filah Hebrew.  Sometimes we go to meet my dad, Rabbi Jay Perlman.  There, we learn the meaning of prayer, why we pray, and why we feel the need to pray.  Sometimes he will give us homework.  Our homework for the past few weeks was to pick a prayer in the sidur, read the prayer in English, and make a poster or project for that prayer.  This project was self explanatory.  We could include anything in the project we wanted to, but everything we did had to relate to the prayer in some way.  As our bonds in the class grow ever stronger, so does our understanding of Hebrew.

 Liron's 6 Grade Hebrew Group had the privilege to have a learning session with Rabbi Jay on Tuesday.
Sharing moments from our lives, getting to know ourselves in depth, talking about the meaning of prayers and why they are so important in our everyday existence and touching on Sukkot and the essence of gratitude.
It was an incredible treat to listen to Rabbi Jay, and an equal one, to listen to our 6 graders participate.
Their mature discussion, and open mind and heart to explore spiritual content was inspirational!
I feel very lucky to be a part of this great learning experience for us all!
