B'Tzelem Elohim

Izzy, Sadie, Jacob and I were exploring the story of creation and what God created on which days. We learned that God thought everything God created was good.  As we read the text more closely, we discovered that there were some differences, though. When God created people, God was very specific: "Let us make [people] in our likeness, after our image" (Gen. 1:26) When we looked back, we saw that no other creation--not light, nor birds, nor the sun, nor animals--was created in God's image. Only people were created B'tzelem Elohim (in the image of God). But what did that mean?

Jacob, Izzy and Sadie decided that it was not a physical "image" but more about who we are inside. And if ALL humans are created B'tzelem Elohim (in the image of God) then we should be careful to treat people with Kavod (respect), kindness and friendship. And, boy, does God have a LOT of personality traits!
